Chief Michael Delaney named 2026 Kentucky Police Chief of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green Police Chief Michael Delaney has been named 2026 Police Chief of the Year by the Kentucky Association of Chiefs of Police.

According to the City of Bowling Green, Delaney received the statewide award during the association’s annual conference in Lexington.

The recognition came as a complete surprise to Delaney, the city says, who did not know he had been selected until the conference.

According to city officials, the award honors “Delaney’s leadership and commitment to law enforcement, the Bowling Green Police Department and the community it serves.”

Since he became chief of the department in 2020, officials say Delaney has “emphasized community engagement, relationship building and trust while leading the department’s officers and staff in serving a growing and diverse community.”

“His leadership can be seen through the department’s continued efforts to strengthen relationships with residents, expand community outreach and create opportunities for officers and community members to connect beyond traditional law enforcement interactions,” the city stated.

The city says it congratulates Delaney on his recognition and thanks him for his continued service, leadership and commitment to Bowling Green.
