Man arrested after allegedly possessing bag of marijuana in Morgantown

MORGANTOWN, Ky. – One man is behind bars after a traffic stop allegedly led to the discovery of marijuana in Morgantown.

According to a uniform citation, on Sunday morning, the Kentucky State Police measured a vehicle speeding at 90 miles per hour in a 70 mph zone on Interstate 165.

Authorities say a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle.

The driver was identified as 20-year-old Ny Yon Fitzgerald of Paducah, according to troopers.

Authorities say Fitzgerald was digging through the vehicle’s console and stated he was armed. Fitzgerald was asked to step out of the vehicle.

During a vehicle search, authorities say they found a loaded handgun, along with a large bag of marijuana, digital scales and other paraphernalia.

Authorities say the bag contained an estimated half pound of marijuana, however, Fitzgerald stated it was a quarter pound.

Fitzgerald was transported to the Butler County Jail without incident.

Fitzgerald faces charges of speeding 20 mph over the speed limit, failure to produce an insurance card, trafficking in marijuana, first offense, and drug paraphernalia – buy/possess.
