2 firefighters injured after battling house fire in Big Clifty

BIG CLIFTY, Ky – Two firefighters sustained injuries while battling a blaze in Grayson County.

According to K105, multiple fire departments and emergency personnel responded to a house fire in the 1100 block of Lacon Skaggs Road at 9:10 pm Tuesday.

After arriving on the scene, firefighters attacked a fully involved blaze in the basement. Officials say the fire spread through the two-story structure.

Two firefighters sustained injuries. One firefighter sustained serious injuries after a staircase he was climbing collapsed. Another firefighter experienced heat exhaustion.

Both firefighters received treatment at Owensboro Health Twin Lakes Medical Center (OHTLMC). One was treated overnight and kept for observation. The firefighter who sustained serious injuries was transferred to a Louisville hospital.

Firefighters were on scene until 2 am Wednesday.

The investigation is ongoing.

The homeowner told K105 that the home’s electrical box is located in the basement and is likely the cause of the fire.
