Purples baseball meets head coach Jay Eastridge for the first time

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Tuesday evening, Bowling Green High School held a meet and greet with its new baseball head coach Jay Eastridge who introduced himself to his new team.

“Well, I’ll be honest, I’ve been looking for this opportunity for a long time. I didn’t just fall out of bed and, you know, hope that I was prepared. I’ve been preparing for this moment for a long time,” Eastridge said.

Eastridge comes to BG after coaching stops at his alma mater, LaRue County, and most recently, Central Hardin High School where he established a winning culture that fits the expectations of the 2026 4th Region champions pretty well.

“He’s gonna fit it like a glove,” Bowling Green City Schools district athletic director Calvin Head said.

“From the first time that I talked to him, when we set up the interview and in the interview, he just kind of won us over. I think he’s going to be a perfect fit. I think his family’s going to enjoy the Bowling Green school system as well.”

For the players returning on the Purples baseball squad, they’re excited to get to know their new coach and already like what he brings to the diamond.

“It’s just, like, his energy and just the way he already said how he was going to coach us, [it] makes us really, really strong,” rising sophomore Chance Carrigan said. “I think all of us sophomores and up, and even the incoming freshmen, have high hopes for this season.”

“It’s super exciting. I’m glad to have a new coach. I think it’ll be a new slate, and it’ll be interesting, but I’m ready,” rising freshman Henry Phillips said.

Although Coach Eastridge is focused on winning, another big emphasis of his coaching style is to develop these young players beyond sports, a blueprint that’s based in the Bluegrass.

“I work a lot with the University of Kentucky and Coach [Nick Mingione], he speaks about student, person, player,” Eastridge said.

“That’s his priorities, and, you know, I do the same in a sense because yes, I want these guys to be great ball players, but at the end of the day, they need to be good men.”

Fans can catch Eastridge and the Purples in action when the season starts in March of 2027.
