Beshear stops in Glasgow for Barren County Family YMCA Senior Center ribbon cutting

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Barren County seniors now have a dedicated place to exercise both their bodies and minds.

Gov. Andy Beshear joined the Barren County Family YMCA Tuesday at a ribbon cutting for a new senior center at its facility in Glasgow.

The 2,800 square-foot addition will host classes and meals for seniors.

The expansion cost over a million dollars, with those funds coming from both grants and donations.

Those at this grand grand opening believe these services will make a difference in the lives of seniors and that they are worth those efforts.

Beshear said, “Seniors in Barren County have poured their hearts into this community. They are the shoulders upon which we stand. And you all have found a very special way to show how much you care about them.”

Tara Bailey, CEO/executive director of Barren County Family YMCA, said, “If they’re socially connected and they’re working on their health, their mental health, their physical health and their spiritual health, they’ll live so much longer and have a better quality of life.”

The new facility will serve over 100 seniors daily.
