Norton Children’s Hospital opens a newly renovated family room
LOUSIVILLE, Ky. – Norton Children’s family room was opened and newly renovated for families fighting childhood cancer to use as a safe haven.
Norton’s Children’s Hospital in Louisville renovated and opened a new family room for families dealing with childhood cancer through the help of donations from community partners. The room includes new areas for meetings with parents and doctors, a new laundry room, a space for games and more.
The room was made for families to connect and to know that they are not alone in their fight.
Lynnie Meyer, chief development officer for Norton’s Healthcare, emphasizes the importance of a room like this in Norton Children’s hospital.
“I always think that it’s so important at the children’s hospital that we continue to talk about healing the mind, the body and the spirit. And this room really is a great example of that. It lays the foundation for our families to have a safe place to come and work out and jump on a treadmill, have a private room for consults to work with their care management team, to be able to play games and to bring in food from home and just really to be able to create some normalcy in the lives of the families that we see,” says Meyer.
Meyer also talks about what made this family room possible and that being the donations that came from community member and community partners.
“You know, so many people care about this community and really care about childhood cancer. And we have so many great organizations and individuals who stepped up making commitments to the Children’s Hospital Foundation. The room is named in honor of David and Carol tinkle, a long time volunteers and members of our Twiggs auxiliary, which do so much every day to support our gift shops and volunteer efforts here at Norton Children’s,” says Meyer.
The family room is now open for use and will continue to be a space for families to use and escape the usual hospital air for a minute. To find out more about the family room and the community at Norton Children’s hospital visit their website at nortonchildrens.com.
