WKU Glasgow Youth Innovation Camp encourages creativity and confidence
GLASGOW, Ky. – The WKU Glasgow Campus wrapped up its inaugural Youth Innovation Camp this week with a showcase highlighting projects created by students throughout the five-day program.
Parents, family members, and community supporters were invited to Friday’s showcase to view the campers’ work and celebrate what they accomplished during the week.
More than 30 students, ranging from second grade through early high school, participated in the camp. Throughout the week, they explored a variety of creative disciplines, including art, engineering, writing and design.
Organizers say the camp was designed to encourage creativity, build confidence and teach students that mistakes are a valuable part of the learning process.
“The theme of this week was that an ‘oops’ can be beautiful,” said camp staff member Georgia McMaster. “Resilience is one of the most important things kids can learn. Everybody goes through challenges, and things don’t always turn out the way we expect. If they can learn to grow from those experiences and turn them into something positive, they’ll be better prepared for life.”
Organizers say they were pleased with the turnout and the students’ enthusiasm during the camp’s first year and hope to continue offering the Youth Innovation Camp for years to come.
