Bowling Green’s Byaombe Matendo named 2025-2026 Kentucky Boys Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Bowling Green High School’s Byaombe Matendo is the 2025-2026 Kentucky Boys Soccer Gatorade Player of the Year.

This award is the top honor in high school sports and is given to student-athletes who excel in their sport, academics, and community.

The senior helped lead the Purples to a 17-2 record and a state tournament appearance this past season.

As a defensive midfielder, he helped protect a backline that recorded 13 shutouts and surrendered only six goals in nineteen games.

Matendo will continue his soccer career at Transylvania University this fall.
