Exploring the Green River with the Gateways to the Green
HART COUNTY, Ky. – South-central Kentucky is home to some of the state’s most recognizable natural attractions, from its extensive cave systems to the rivers that wind through the region’s rolling hills.
In Hart County, tourism leaders are working to attract more visitors by showcasing those resources through initiatives such as “Gateways to the Green,” which highlights recreational opportunities along the Green River.
Tourism officials say the region is well-positioned to capitalize on growing interest from interstate travelers and the increasing population across south-central Kentucky.
“We’re blessed with these assets,” said Sandra Wilson, executive director of Horse Cave-Hart County Tourism. “A lot of communities have to create attractions or hope to build them. We already have these incredible natural resources, and our goal is to share them with the world.”
Wilson says the Green River and surrounding attractions provide opportunities for outdoor recreation and tourism throughout the region.
“Even as we look toward growth and development, we can continue building on the natural attractions that already exist along the river and throughout the Caveland area,” she said.
Officials note that there are multiple access points to the Green River in Hart County and neighboring counties, offering visitors a variety of ways to experience the waterway.
Tourism leaders encourage residents and visitors alike to explore the different sections of the river and learn more about the outdoor opportunities available throughout the region.
