2 Smiths Grove residents charged after allegedly abusing infant

SMITHS GROVE, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police is investigating two Smiths Grove residents for criminal abuse of an infant.

According to a release, the Indiana State Police contacted KSP Post 3 regarding a two-month-old infant that its parents dropped off at a family member’s house in Salem, Indiana, on April 23.

The family member transported the child to St. Vincent Hospital in Indiana after observing medical issues.

KSP says the infant was later flown to Norton Children’s Hospital for further treatment.

KSP and ISP obtained arrest warrants for the infant’s parents, 21-year-old Aurora Hamilton, of Smiths Grove, and 18-year-old Benjamin Reale, of Smiths Grove.

Both are charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a victim under 12 and endangering the welfare of a minor.

Hamilton and Reale are lodged at the Jackson County Detention Center awaiting extradition.

The investigation is ongoing.
