Bowling Green’s First Christian Church celebrates renovation completion
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – After years of planning, fundraising and construction, First Christian Church in Bowling Green celebrated the completion of a major renovation project, one aimed at strengthening both its congregation and its role in the community.
Church leaders and partners gathered for a re-dedication ceremony Sunday, marking the transformation of the space into a more modern, welcoming hub for worship and outreach.
Scott Taylor, chair of the church’s capital campaign, reflected on the effort it took and the impact Pastor Megan Huston had in bringing the project to life.
“So with her dynamic leadership, careful attention, contagious positivity, the work navigated a tremendous transition… and positioned the church for not only a successful campaign, but a very, very beautiful renovation,” Taylor said.
The project, which totaled approximately $1.75 million, began as a kitchen upgrade but quickly evolved into a full renovation of the church’s fellowship and gathering spaces.
Pastor Megan Huston said the vision behind the project was always centered on community.
“Today we are proud of what we have accomplished, but not just for our sake, for the sake of our neighbors,” Huston said.
She emphasized that the space is designed to serve more than just church members, supporting ministries like community meals, outreach programs, and a free grocery store for those in need.
“This is our space, but we are dedicating it to the glory of God and for love of our neighbors,” Huston said.
The renovation was made possible through support from a wide range of partners.
Grant funding came from organizations including Rotary of Bowling Green, the Community Foundation of South Central Kentucky, Kiwanis, the Billie P. Hatcher Charitable Foundation, United Way, and the American Red Cross.
The church also collaborated with ministry partners such as Mount Zion Baptist Church, the Islamic Center, HOTEL INC, the Salvation Army, the International Center, the Housing Authority, Habitat for Humanity and State Street Baptist Church.
Project partners included Centric Architecture, German American Bank and Scott, Murphy and Daniel Building.
In addition, the church’s community grocery store initiative was supported by partners like Feeding America, Need More Acres Farm, House on the Hill, Greenwood Park Church, and multiple local congregations.
Huston said the project reflects a broader mission moving forward.
“This project is not the end. It’s only the beginning,” she said.
Church leaders say the renovated space will continue to serve as a place for connection, service, and support, aimed at meeting the needs of Bowling Green residents for years to come.
