Barren County Schools unveil “A Matter of Perspective” exhibit

GLASGOW, Ky. – Barren County Schools unveiled a new art exhibit on Monday at the Trojan Art Gallery called “A Matter of Perspective.”
A traveling art exhibit created by the statewide nonprofit organization “Arts for All Kentucky.”
“A Matter of Perspective” is an annual statewide exhibit that encourages children with disabilities to create art and submit it to the nonprofit.
30 different students across the state of Kentucky were selected to display their original artwork in the gallery, which will be traveling to schools across Kentucky.
Including seven students in the area:
John Riley Christie, Grade 9, Barren County High School
Bobby Kidd, Grade 9, Barren County High School
Jesse Rister, Grade 8, Barren County Middle School
Matthew Stinson, Grade 12, Hart County High School
Matthew Vroman, Grade 12, Hart County High School
Keagan Sinnett, Grade 11, Hart County High School
Jonah Bemiss, Grade 8 Home School – Warren County
Barren County Middle School Art Teacher Sarah Vetter said “It is huge for our students with disabilities to see their work get celebrated sometimes, as individuals, students with disabilities are left out of things. They feel like maybe they’re not included.”
Vetter added, “Having this exhibit allows them to be at the forefront to be celebrated, and for us to let them, their families, our students that are in our schools, our teachers really come and celebrate the things that these students are doing.”
Not only does the exhibit recognize students’ hard work — it is also a tool to help prepare them for life after school.
“I think that students who get recognition and get their work shown to different exhibits they’re going to be a little bit more confident, a little bit more devoted to what their passion is. So this is the opportunity for them” said Barren County High School Art Teacher Neli Ouzounova
Barren County is the first school on the exhibits tour this year.
The exhibit will be open to the public on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30-4:30 pm at Barren County High School until its closing reception on Jan. 22
