FRANKLIN, Ky. – A Tennessee man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he fled police in Simpson County on Monday.

According to a uniform citation, a call came in around 9:35 p.m. about a reckless driver on Interstate 65 southbound at the 17-mile marker.

A deputy with the Simpson County Sheriff’s Office states they positioned their cruiser to find the vehicle, described as a white two-door Cadillac.

Authorities say they observed the described vehicle failing to maintain its lane.

Authorities say despite the deputy’s activated emergency lights, the vehicle failed to pull over and had fluctuating speeds.

The vehicle continued to flee on I-65 southbound until it left the interstate at exit 2, according to the citation. Authorities say the vehicle then turned north on Nashville Road reaching speeds of 30 miles per hour.

Authorities say the vehicle eventually reached a stop in the parking lot of a Franklin business.

Deputies say a felony stop was conducted, discovering two occupants in the vehicle.

The male driver, identified as 39-year-old James Hammonds of Nashville, Tennessee, was ordered out of the vehicle. After Hammonds was detained, a female passenger was ordered to exit and also detained.

During a vehicle search, police say they located an open alcoholic beverage.

Deputies say Hammonds had the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on him, as well as exhibiting slurred speech and unsteady walking.

Upon speaking with the passenger, deputies say she stated she had been asleep during the incident. Authorities say no alcohol was in her system, and it was determined she had no involvement in the incident, leading to her release.

Hammonds was placed under arrest and transported to the Simpson County Jail.

He faces charges of reckless driving, first-degree fleeing or evading police (motor vehicle), operating on a suspended or revoked operators license, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense.
