SKyPAC marks major construction milestone with final beam placement

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – The Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center celebrated a major step in its ongoing expansion Tuesday as crews raised the final steel beam into place on the new Robert P. Ramsey Annex, a 34,000-square-foot addition scheduled to open in early 2026.

The beam was signed by construction crews, SKyPAC leadership and local officials before being lifted and secured atop the four-story structure. The expansion, which broke ground in April 2025, will add rehearsal halls, a set workshop, administrative offices and additional storage aimed at supporting SKyPAC’s growing programs and performances.

Quintin Littrell, president of Sunbelt Construction, said the milestone marks the beginning of more visible progress on the building.

“For the quality of life for our community and this region, SKyPAC being able to offer even better products is huge,” Littrell said. “Now that the steel is complete, you’re really going to start seeing major changes from the exterior.”

The project is being constructed in a tight space between existing buildings on Seventh Street, a challenge Littrell said has required careful planning to safely move equipment and materials.

State Sen. Mike Wilson said the expansion reflects SKyPAC’s rapid growth and its broadening regional impact.

“Our Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center is growing like crazy,” Wilson said. “This expansion gives them the space they need, and it attracts people from all over, it’s incredible for the region.”

Officials expect interior work to accelerate now that the building’s steel frame is finished. The annex is projected to be completed and operational in early 2026.
