Men arrested after report of Bowling Green cooking oil thefts
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two men are facing charges in alleged used cooking oil thefts from Bowling Green businesses.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded around 12:47 a.m. Tuesday to Captain D’s on U.S. 31-W Bypass regarding a reported theft in progress.
Police say a caller stated they witnessed two males stealing used cooking oil from recycle containers behind multiple restaurants.
Authorities say the caller was an employee of Darling Ingredients, who owns the containers and oil.
Upon arrival, police say they saw 52-year-old Lao Magdiel and 27-year-old Luis Nogales Sanchez, both of Louisville, in the back of the property.
Authorities say Sanchez stated the two were trying to “start a company picking oil.”
Police say both subjects stated they were just testing the truck and had not taken any oil.
According to police, the caller stated they, along with several other colleagues, had witnessed Magdiel and Sanchez steal about $1,500 worth of oil overnight into Tuesday morning.
Authorities say they received video of both subjects, Magdiel and Sanchez, pumping oil into containers.
Police say Magdiel and Sanchez stated the video “was a lie.”
Police say it was determined both men had taken oil from six locations in Bowling Green, including Hardee’s off of Interstate Drive, Puerto Vallarta off of River Place Avenue, Huck’s off of Morgantown Road, Puerto Vallarta off of U.S. 31-W Bypass, Mi Cocina off of 14 W. 12th Ave. and Walmart off of Morgantown Road.
Magdiel and Sanchez remain at the Warren County Regional Jail on a charge each of theft by unlawful taking or disposition all others between $1,000 and $10,000.
