Med Center Health hosting 10K Classic at Bowling Green Ballpark
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Med Center Health is bringing back a community favorite activity this up coming weekend.
This Saturday, for its 46th year the Med Center 10K Classic will play host to hundred of runners getting out and exercising their body. The race will feature a 10K race and 5K run/walk, a Wheelchair Race and the loved Children’s Classic as well. Med Center is inviting runners and walkers of all experience to join them.
This year though features a new location and new routes for runners and walkers to take.
“This year we’re in a new location. We’re going to be here at the Bowling Green Ballpark. We’re really excited with that, which means that we’ve got new courses. So we have a whole new 5K course, a whole new 10K course. It’ll all take place right here. We’ll start, the line will be, right here in front of the stadium on eighth Street. And everybody will end, their race in the ballpark,” said Sarah Widener, health and wellness director for Med Center Health.
The point of the 10K Classic though is to inspire the community to get up and get active. And with society becoming evermore stuck behind screens and living more sedentary lifestyles, getting up and getting active is becoming even more important to our health.
“So we’re promoting health, it’s a community event. Obviously, promoting health and wellness and prevention, is important to Med Center. So it’s a community event where people can come out, whether you’re an experienced runner or whether you’re you’re just walking, you’re getting into it. You want to have a good day with family, you want to be, you know, out and doing something active. We’re just promoting wellness and fitness,” Widener said.
Widener also warned of the weather as the day looks to be hot and sunny, so preparing ahead of time is very important as well. That means hydrating a day before the race, eating easily digestible foods and staying away from fried foods and caffeine as these foods could upset the digestive track and hurt you during exercise.
