LEXINGTON, Ky. – A University of Kentucky student has been released from jail after a dead infant was found last week.

Court records state 21-year-old Laken Snelling of Lexington posted surety for $100,000 and has been placed on house arrest.

Snelling faces charges of concealing the birth of an infant, tampering with physical evidence and abuse of a corpse.

According to a uniform citation, the Lexington Police Department was dispatched shortly after 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 27 to Park Avenue regarding a dead infant being found inside of a closet.

The citation states the infant was located in a towel inside of a trash bag.

Police say Snelling admitted to giving birth and concealing that birth by cleaning up any evidence and putting all of the cleaning items in the trash bag with the infant.

Snelling is scheduled for arraignment on Sept. 2 at 1 p.m. in Lexington. News 40 will provide an update as further details are released.
