FDA issues warning about cookware that could leach lead

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is issuing a warning about some imported cookware for concerns of it leaching lead.

According to the FDA, the cookware could leach significant levels of lead into food. The FDA recommends consumers should check their homes for the products, listed here.

Health officials say some types of imported cookware are made from aluminum, brass and aluminum alloys that have been found to make food unsafe.

In particular, officials say young children, women of child-bearing age and those who are breastfeeding are at a higher risk for potential adverse affects.

Officials advise against donating or refurbishing the cookware, and those with concerns about lead exposure are recommended to contact their health care provider.
