BRASS Inc. marks 45 years of service in Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WNKY) – BRASS Inc., a regional nonprofit that supports survivors of domestic violence, celebrated its 45th anniversary Saturday evening with community members, partners, and survivors.
Executive Director Tori Henninger said the milestone reflects both the nonprofit’s resilience and the community’s commitment to protecting victims of abuse. Founded with just five shelter beds and a crisis line, BRASS has grown into a 10-county provider of comprehensive services.
“Without BRASS, victims are often left with the impossible choice of escaping with their lives or staying with their possessions,” Henninger said. “We help people rebuild with dignity, safety and healing.”
The anniversary program included a video featuring a survivor who publicly shared her story. Henninger said such bravery allows the organization to give voice to those who cannot yet speak out.
BRASS’s evolution has included building partnerships with other nonprofits to create a broader safety net. Today, the group provides not only emergency shelter but also holistic services to address the long-term impacts of domestic violence.
Henninger credited the community for sustaining the nonprofit’s mission over the decades. “Forty-five years means the community has surrounded and supported us, and they’ll continue to do so for the next 45,” she said.
While Henninger said she would one day like to “work herself out of a job,” she acknowledged domestic violence remains an enduring crisis. “We’re dealing with the darkest parts of human nature,” she said. “That’s why it’s so important BRASS remains a part of our community.”
