KSP troopers rescue family after child calls 911

LONDON, Ky. – The Kentucky State Police says troopers rescued several members of a family thanks to a 911 call from a child.

According to authorities, on July 9 around 1 p.m., KSP Post 11 troopers in London successfully rescued victims of a domestic violence situation in Laurel County.

Troopers say the situation started when a child used a 911-only phone to report the situation, with the call initially received by Laurel County 911 before it was transferred to KSP.

Upon arrival, troopers say they were not able to make contact and made forcible entry into the home.

Inside, troopers say they located 36-year-old Brandon L. Lunsford of Corbin.

Authorities say Lunsford was holding his spouse and children against their will in an attempt to avoid being apprehended. Troopers say they acted quickly to get the victims to safety and took Lunsford into custody without further incident.

Lunsford was charged with one count of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence, minor injury), three counts of second-degree unlawful imprisonment and one count of first-degree strangulation (domestic violence-related).

The investigation is ongoing.
