1 dead, 1 injured in reported Owensboro shooting

OWENSBORO, Ky. – One person is dead and another is injured following a reported shooting in Owensboro overnight.

The Owensboro Police Department says shortly before midnight, officers responded to a report of a disturbance and gunfire at an apartment in the 1800 block of Hughes Avenue.

Upon arrival, officers say they secured the scene and found two victims with apparent gunshot wounds.

Police say one female subject was found in the living room with a gunshot wound to the chest. Authorities say the female was transported to OHRH with non-life-threatening injuries.

A male victim was also found in a bedroom with a gunshot wound to his chest, authorities say. He was transported to OHRH, where he was later pronounced dead.

Officials say detectives with the Criminal Investigations Division and crime scene technicians from the Evidence Collection Unit responded to the scene.

According to authorities, preliminary findings show that one or more people entered the apartment, which led to a confrontation, followed by shots fired.

Two people were still in the apartment when officers arrived, officials say. Those individuals were taken in for questioning.

Police say two guns have been recovered from the scene. Investigators are continuing a canvass of the area for any witnesses or video surveillance. The investigation remains on going.
