How can you stay safe with Fireworks this Fourth of July? Will you have to spend more this year?
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — With the Fourth of July just days away, fireworks sales are booming, and one local retailer is reminding customers to celebrate safely and be prepared for possible changes in prices next year.
“We’re going into a weekend this year and a lot of people will be having those backyard parties,” Amy Burge of Skylite Fireworks said. “Always make sure to pick up those packages. Sometimes if they’re hot and the grass does happen to get dry, you know they can catch on fire. Always have water handy if you’re if you’re shooting fireworks.”
Safety isn’t the only concern. While this year’s prices have remained stable, the retailer says international tariffs could start affecting costs as early as next summer.
“Everybody’s been hearing about tariffs,” she said. “How is that going to affect fireworks? Not so much this year with the exception of maybe if you have a favorite product.”
Most consumer fireworks sold in the U.S. are imported, primarily from China. While tariffs haven’t had a major impact yet, the retailer said suppliers have warned that 2026 might bring noticeable increases.
“Our prices will not be really drastically going up this year. ” Burge said. “ But next year things will change because there will be tariffs in place and again, the supply chain has slowed down and we have America’s 250th birthday coming up. And the the demand will be unlike we’ve ever seen probably next year.”
As the holiday approaches, Burge says safety should still come first.
