Former Caverna High School basketball coach indicted, pleads not guilty

HORSE CAVE, Ky. – A former Caverna High School basketball coach has been indicted and is pleading not guilty in a case involving several charges, including child abuse.

According to court records, a not guilty plea was entered for 37-year-old Terrence Miles on June 17.

Prior to this, court records show an an indictment was filed on June 3.

Miles faces charges of second-degree assault, fourth-degree assault – child abuse, second-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree official misconduct and failure to report child depend neglect or abuse, first offense.

This follows after a video circulated on social media that featured the coach.

Miles resigned in early May from his positions as basketball coach and as a special education teacher at the school.

Amanda Abell, superintendent of Caverna Independent Schools, provided a statement Miles’ resignation in May.

Abell stated, “Following a thorough review and interviews with all witnesses involved, I met with the teacher this morning to terminate his employment. At the start of the meeting, the teacher submitted his resignation. A copy of his statement is attached. Both students involved in the incident have also been disciplined in accordance with school policy.”

“We sincerely regret that this incident occurred and are committed to ensuring student safety remains our highest priority.”

Abell later released the following regarding this situation:

“We are cooperating with the local law enforcement and Department for Community Based Services, but I am unable to comment on their investigation.”

Court records state Miles is scheduled for a pre-trial conference on Sept. 26.
