Hilltop String Festival Concert fills Historic Railpark with music

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Historic Railpark hosted the Hilltop String Festival on Thursday.

The concert was open to the public, and the music rang through the old depot. The audience that enjoyed the performance ranged from school children to seniors. The event brought many diverse people together in the community of music.

Ching Yi Lin, a professor of  violin at Western Kentucky University, says, “I think what’s absolutely amazing about music is that you can have children and students from different backgrounds, different abilities, different levels come together to speak a common language of music.”

Sal Stein, a student who played violin at the Hilltop String Festival, says, “The most special part about music is sharing it with others. Because music is something that is meant to be shared. And it’s only written on paper so that people can share it. And that’s the intention of the composer.”

Twenty-eight students from around the country are participating in the festival, which is an intense week focusing on chamber music at WKU. The musicians range in age from four years to older. Both the experienced and beginners are welcomed.
