State police investigating fatal Barren County crash

CAVE CITY, Ky. – Kentucky State Police is investigating a fatal crash in Barren County.

KSP Post 3 received a call to an injury collision at the 500 block of Broadway Street at approximately noon on Friday, May 23

According to KSP’s preliminary investigation, a vehicle driven by Wesley England, 41, of Hardyville, was stopped at a traffic light at Broadway Street and US 31W. Another vehicle, driven by Frances Laird, 69, of Cave City, was also stopped at the traffic light.

KSP says England’s vehicle collided with the rear of Laird’s vehicle, pushing it into the intersection. England allegedly continued to accelerate and crashed into an unoccupied van and a light pole.

England was airlifted to TriStar Skyline Medical Center for injury treatment.

Laird was transported to the Caverna Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

England later died as a result of his injuries on June 2, 2025, at TriStar Skyline Medical Center.

The investigation is ongoing.
