Bowling Green man charged with vehicle theft after allegedly hitting deer

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is charged with vehicle theft after allegedly hitting a deer over the weekend.

According to a uniform citation, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was contacted Sunday just before 8 a.m. in reference to a collision along the 7200 block of Russellville Road.

Deputies say a caller stated a vehicle was in their front yard with its windshield wipers on.

Authorities say while approaching the scene, they observed a dead deer near the 7000 block of Russellville Road. Upon arrival, deputies say they located the vehicle with deer hair and blood on the back of it.

Deputies say the vehicle appeared to have hit the deer and lost control leaving the highway. According to authorities, the vehicle continued down an embankment through a ditch before hitting a curb and coming to a rest in the yard.

Deputies say they identified a male using trail camera photos.

After speaking to the owner of the vehicle that was located a few miles away, deputies say she stated she knew the alleged driver but had not given him permission to drive her vehicle.

Authorities say the vehicle owner stated the male, identified as 20-year-old Clifton Embry of Bowling Green, was asleep on the living room floor. Deputies say he was wearing the same clothes seen in the photos.

The citation states Embry stated he was the only a passenger in the vehicle. However, deputies say only the driver’s side airbags were deployed, providing a clue there were no passengers.

There was also one empty alcoholic beverage container in the vehicle, authorities say.

Embry was arrested and transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for clearance before being taken to the Warren County Regional Jail.

He is charged with theft by unlawful taking or disposition auto between $10,000 and $1,000,000, possession of an open alcoholic beverage container in motor vehicle prohibited, failure to report a traffic accident, driving on a DUI suspended license, first offense, alter/hide identity from ignition interlock device for BAC test, first offense, and second-degree criminal mischief.
