KSP locates explosive devices following traffic stop

LAWRENCEBURG, Ky. – Two men allegedly possessed explosive devices in Anderson County.
Kentucky State Police says a trooper conducted a traffic violation stop on Monday at Anderson Crossing Drive.
A KSP trooper says the driver, Ronald Coffman, 41 of Mercer County, and the passenger, Zebadiah Murphy, 36, of Anderson County, had illegal narcotics and two improvised explosive devices (IEDs).
According to the trooper, Coffman said the explosive devices contained black powder and lead pellets.
KSP set up a perimeter around the vehicle and a hazardous device unit responded to the scene. The unit safely removed the devices.
A search warrant was obtained for Murphy’s home on Hammonds Creek Road in Anderson County.
KSP says two additional IEDs and items to manufacture IEDs were located inside the home. Several firearms, improvised firearm suppressors, and restricted ammunition were also located.
Coffman and Murphy were arrested and taken to the Franklin County Regional Jail.
Coffman is charged with the use of a weapon of mass destruction (3rd degree), drug possession, and several additional charges.
Murphy is charged with the use of a weapon of mass destruction (3rd degree), illegal firearm possession, and several additional charges.
The investigation is ongoing.
