Former Trigg Co. teacher charged with DUI after falling asleep in car rider line

HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. – A former Trigg County teacher has been charged after police say she was allegedly found unconscious in a school car rider line.
According to a uniform citation, the Hopkinsville Police Department was dispatched just before 3:30 p.m. Monday to the area of Glass Avenue at Christian County Middle School.
Authorities say a school resource officer stated several parents picking up their children had to wake 42-year-old Ashley Wells of Hopkinsville, who had fallen asleep in her vehicle.
Police say the caller stated one of the parents saw an open container of alcohol in Wells’ vehicle.
Officers say they located the vehicle swerving from side to side and conducted a traffic stop.
Wells denied drinking before driving and having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle, authorities say.
Police say Wells had two minors in the vehicle during this time, and field sobriety tests were conducted on Wells.
Officers say they could see an empty Truly can in the driver side door of the vehicle, along with a cold and open can of Twisted Tea.
Wells was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense, possession of an open alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle prohibited and second-degree wanton endangerment.
According to a prior release by the Kentucky State Police, Wells was previously charged in 2022 with first-degree sexual abuse.
The release states this related to an investigation by KSP into allegations of sexual contact between a Trigg County Public School teacher and a student. KSP states it found Wells, a former Trigg County High School teacher, had sexual contact with a 17-year-old student in 2016 in Christian County.
