FEMA teams visiting Franklin neighborhoods affected by flooding
FRANKLIN, Ky. – Crews with the Federal Emergency Management Agency are stopping in neighborhoods affected by February flooding, including Simpson County.
According to Simpson County Emergency Management, FEMA will be helping those impacted to apply for disaster assistance in Breathitt, Clay, Estill, Floyd, Harlan, Johnson, Knott, Lee, Letcher, Martin, Owsley, Perry, Pike and Simpson counties.
Officials say FEMA personnel will help homeowners and renters apply and identify immediate needs.
According to emergency management, crews will also be able to provide an update on application statuses and community resources.
To apply, officials say you can do the following:
- Apply online at DisasterAssistance.gov
- By using the FEMA mobile app
- Visit a Disaster Recovery Center
- Call 800-621-3362

The deadline to apply is April 25.
As a reminder, officials say FEMA teams will never ask for or accept money and will always wear a FEMA identification badge with a photo.
A FEMA shirt, vest or jacket is not proof of identity. While helping with applications, crews will ask for personal information, including social security number, annual income and bank information. Residents are encouraged to ask for identification before providing any personal information. They may also contact the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 to verify a FEMA visit is legitimate.
