Wanted man arrested after fleeing police
BUTLER Co.,- One man is behind bars after police say he fled from a traffic stop in Butler County.
Monday, March 3, the Morgantown Police Department says they attempted to stop a motorcycle on South Main St., due to it having no registration plate. The driver failed to stop and turned onto I-165 Southbound toward Bowling Green. The pursuit was joined by the Kentucky State Police and reached speeds of over 125 MPH. Officers saw numerous other traffic violations from the motorcycle at this time.
The pursuit was terminated by Sergeant Ronald Cox at the intersection of I-165 and Scottsville Rd. Kawai was not caught at this time.
After some investigation, police identified the driver as 30-year-old Arlexis Deshawn Kawai of Bowling Green. Arlexis had 4 active warrants out of Warren County, including charges of Wanton Endangerment in the 1st Degree and Possession of a Handgun by a Convicted Felon.
Thursday, March 6, officers received information that Kawai was spotted again in Morgantown. Shortly after, a vehicle matching Arlexis’s car was pulled over, and Kawai was taken into custody without incident.
Arlexis Kawai was placed under arrest on the 4 active warrants and lodged in the Butler County Jail. He was then transferred to the Warren County Detention Center. Police say additional charges relating to the pursuit will be presented in the next Butler Grand Jury. Officers say this will include charges for Fleeing and Evading and Wanton Endangerment. This case does have the potential for other charges, police say.
