1 flown, 1 arrested on DUI charge after car hits tree

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green woman is facing charges after one person was flown following a crash.

According to a uniform citation, the Warren County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched around 8:18 p.m. Saturday to the 800 block of Williams Simmons Road for a single-vehicle injury collision.

Upon arrival, authorities say they saw a red Chevrolet HHR had hit a tree.

Authorities say two people had been extracted from the vehicle, which was still smoking.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kristin Cowles, 31, of Bowling Green.

After making contact, authorities say they learned Cowles was under the influence of alcohol. Cowles was checked by EMS before being placed into custody.

While speaking with Cowles, authorities say she stated she consumed about four to six 1-ounce “shooters” with an alcohol content of 49.5%.

Cowles also stated she began drinking around 5 to 5:30 p.m., with the last drink being at 7:40 p.m., authorities say.

Deputies say Cowles stated she had also consumed marijuana.

Authorities say the passenger sustained a severe laceration to the head, partially scalping her. According to deputies, it was determined the passenger was suffering from potentially life-threatening injuries.

The passenger was flown to TriStar Skyline Medical Center in Nashville.

Cowles was medically cleared and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail.

She faces charges of first-degree assault and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/substance, first offense.
