Food recalls more widespread, lead to more deaths in 2024

(CNN) – Food contamination is becoming more widespread, and in many cases, severe.
According to a report published by the Public Interest Research Group, most illnesses in 2024 were linked to just 13 outbreaks.
That’s despite more than 300 food recalls last year.
Researchers say salmonella, listeria and E. coli were the most common reasons for food recalls.
Nineteen people died from an illness related to contaminated food, double the number from 2023.
Just this past month, recalls that impacted Kentucky included certain canned tuna and broccoli.
