UPDATE: Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 shares current road conditions

UPDATE 11 a.m.

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet has provided an update at 11 a.m. on roads in District 3.

The District 3 area includes Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson, Todd and Warren counties.

Transportation officials say road conditions across the District 3 area are beginning to improve.

Priority A routes, including Interstate 65, Interstate 165 and U.S. routes are becoming mainly wet in the travel lanes in most areas, officials say. Most priority B and C routes remain covered or mostly covered. Hazardous driving conditions still exist on most routes.

Crews continue to work and have begun treating priority B routes in many places. Crews will continue to work throughout the day and into the evening.

Original story:

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet District 3 officials have provided an update on current road conditions. They say conditions across the District 3 area remain hazardous as most roads remain completely covered in snow. Interstate 65 has multiple lanes that are partially covered. A winter weather system has already dumped multiple inches of snow across the District 3 area with more on the way. They ask that any motorists who have to be out today use caution, give lots of extra travel time, plan to use the best main routes possible, and expect slick travel conditions. Road conditions are not expected to improve before the morning commute time and remain hazardous well into Wednesday. Many crashes and vehicle slide-offs from around the District have been reported since the winter weather system moved into the area. All 10 counties in District 3 remain under a Winter Storm Warning from the U.S. National Weather Service until 11 a.m.

State highway crews remained focused on priority A routes. It may be a while until crews can get to priority B and C routes.
