Man allegedly flees hit-and-run after shoplifting alcohol, charged with DUI
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is facing charges after allegedly drinking before wrecking into another vehicle.
According to a uniform citation, the Bowling Green Police Department responded Sunday around 11:25 p.m. to the area of Lehman Avenue and Eastwood Street regarding a hit-and-run collision.
Police say the caller stated the driver of the other vehicle ran away from the scene.
Upon arrival, police say they spoke with the driver of the vehicle that was rear ended.
They later identified the driver that fled the scene as Cooper Davis, 19, of Bowling Green.
A passenger in Davis’ vehicle stated Davis was driving and was under the influence of alcoholic beverages, according to police.
Police say the passenger stated he asked Davis to slow down, but he continued to speed, reaching 60 miles per hour before rear ending the other vehicle.
Police say they located Davis near the intersection of Lehman Avenue and Wakefield Street.
Davis stated he was intoxicated and that he and the passenger were the only ones in the vehicle, police say.
Davis was detained and transported to the collision scene to be placed in a police cruiser.
Police say Davis was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for medical clearance. While at The Medical Center, police say Davis stated he and the passenger drank an entire bottle of whiskey.
Police say Davis stated he and the passenger then traveled in his vehicle before shoplifting alcohol from a local gas station.
Officers say they reviewed video footage that showed both subjects shoplifting.
Davis was transported to the Warren County Regional Jail. He is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, first-degree criminal mischief, operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, first offense (aggravated circumstances), third-degree terroristic threatening, menacing, theft by unlawful taking or disposition shoplifting and leaving the scene of an accident- failure to render aid or assistance.
