Bowling Green man arrested after allegedly hitting man with hammer
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A Bowling Green man is facing charges after police say a person living in the same home was allegedly hit by a hammer.
According to a uniform citation, officers responded Sunday around 1:18 p.m. to a home on Glen Lily Road regarding a reported physical altercation.
Upon arrival, police say they spoke to Thomas Shelton, 60, of Bowling Green. Police say Shelton at first stated a caregiver had assaulted the victim and had retrieved a hammer from the kitchen.
Police say the victim was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for a large foot injury.
Officers say they went into the kitchen and found a hammer in the sink, along with blood.
When police spoke with the victim, they say he stated Shelton was the one that assaulted him with an unknown object. He also stated the caregiver was never at the home that day, police say. Police say the victim estimated Shelton hit him “10 times or more.”
According to police, the caregiver’s manager stated she had been off work that day. The caregiver also stated she had been at home and had an app on her phone proving it.
Shelton was placed into custody and transported to the Warren County Regional Jail. While speaking with Shelton at the jail, police say he stated the victim had planned with him to get the caregiver in trouble and “make sure she went to jail.” He additionally stated the victim had agreed Shelton could hit him with the hammer to make it look as if the caregiver did it.
Shelton stated he hit the victim “two or three times,” police say.
Shelton was arrested and is charged with first-degree assault – domestic violence. He remains at the Warren County Regional Jail.
