Franklin man charged after child found unresponsive in home with fentanyl
FRANKLIN, Ky. – A Franklin man is facing charges after police say a toddler was found unresponsive at a residence that contained illegal drugs.
According to a uniform citation, the Franklin Police Department was dispatched around 1 p.m. Monday for a medical assist on Jackson Street in Franklin.
Police say upon arrival, officers located a unresponsive 2-year-old. The child was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green.
Authorities say the Franklin Police Criminal Investigations Division arrived on scene.
The citation states a detective spoke with Curtis Shrum, 40, of Franklin.
Authorities say Shrum gave permission to search the residence, where they found various items, including suspected fentanyl.
Shrum told authorities the substance was fentanyl but that he kept the door to the room locked and did not see a correlation between the substance and the medical incident, the citation states.
The investigation remains ongoing.
Shrum remains at the Simpson County Jail and is charged with first-degree possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl), second-degree criminal abuse – child 12 or under and first-degree wanton endangerment.
