Man charged in drug smuggling operation involving Allen Co. Detention Center
SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. – A Scottsville man is facing drug trafficking charges after deputies say illegal drugs were smuggled into the Allen County Detention Center.
According to a uniform citation, Eric Taylor, 50, of Scottsville was arrested Monday on charges of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance, first offense (less than 2 grams of methamphetamine), first-degree promoting contraband (complicity) and persistent felony offender II.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office says it responded Nov. 21 after being contacted by the Allen County Detention Center in reference to contraband potentially being in the jail.
During a search, authorities say they located methamphetamine and suspected Suboxone in a female inmates mouth.
The sheriff’s office says a detective conducted interviews with female inmates on a work crew and at a roadside park on Nov. 20. Following this, authorities say they learned Taylor had dropped contraband in the trash can at the park.
Deputies say while reviewing camera footage from Nov. 20, they observed Taylor driving a small Silver car, which stopped at the park before he exited and dropped a white Dairy Queen box and brown bag into the trash.
Authorities say the brown bag contained the contraband that was brought into the jail.
According to the citation, a female inmate had removed the bag from the trash and taken it to the bathroom.
During a recorded interview, authorities say Taylor admitted to placing the Suboxone in the trash but would not admit to placing methamphetamine there.
Taylor remains at the Allen County Detention Center.
