Father, stepmother charged with criminal child abuse in Hopkins Co.

MADISONVILLE, Ky. – A father and stepmother are facing charges related to a child abuse case in Madisonville.
According to a social media post by the Madisonville Police Department, the Department of Child Based Services contacted Madisonville police to assist with a home visit for a report of neglect and abuse on Wednesday.
Police say the complainant stated an 11-year-old child at the residence had been “grounded” since age 5.
Police say they were also advised the child had to face the wall of their room for hours and could not move or meals were denied.
Upon arrival, authorities say contact was made with the stepmother, Krystal Day, and three children.
Police say the 11-year-old was “visibly malnourished” and “subjected to cruel confinement and punishment.”
In addition, police say the window of the room was covered by plywood boards and shades, and there were two mounted video cameras facing the corner.
Police say there was only a bed in the middle of the room.
Police say they were also told the child had not “partaken in family meals since around 2019” and was not allowed to have contact with siblings or other family.
The father, Aaron Day, 38, and stepmother, Krystal Day, 35, were both arrested and remain at the Hopkins County Jail, each on a $100,000 cash bond.
Both are charged with first-degree criminal abuse of a child 12 or under.
