Acclaimed children’s author to headline WCPL’s ‘Let’s Read!’ series on Oct. 1

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The Warren County Public Library has announced the next event for its “Let’s Read!” series, featuring celebrated children’s author Alicia Salazar.

The event will take place on Oct. 1 at the Capitol.

Salazar is a former elementary school teacher, according to WCPL. The library says she has experience teaching second, third and fourth grade for 12 years. She also has worked as a marine biologist.

Currently, the library says she is a freelancer that has written for magazines and blogs, as well as educational publishers.

Salazar is the daughter of Mexican immigrants and was raised in Houston, Texas, according to WCPL.

She is the author of the Camila the Star series of early chapter books as well as Loch Ness Monster, Trolls and Día de los Muertos. Several of the stories she writes “have roots in her experiences growing up Mexican American and the universal experiences of love, quiet, friendship and hope,” the library says.

The library says her Camila the Star series follows Camila, a young Latina girl with large dreams of becoming a star in the spotlight.

WCPL says the series is praised for an empowering message and encouragement for children to pursue their passions, overcoming challenges along the way.

WCPL’s says its “Let’s Read!” series, launched in August with bestselling author Max Brallier, is designed to promote literacy and foster a love of reading by featuring popular children’s authors. Each event in the series offers young readers a unique opportunity to meet the authors behind the stories that ignite their imaginations.
