Southern Kentucky Region sees influx of false school threats

BUTLER COUNTY, Ky. – As schools across the region encounter threats. They are not the only ones who feel the effects, local law enforcement are busy trying to catch those who make these false claims, and they do not take these threats lightly. News 40 spoke to Butler County Sheriff Scottie Ward who said that the perpetrators of these calls will be charged with serious crimes no matter the age, even if the call was only meant to be a joke.

“To the students at the school, you know, they know it ain’t something you joke about. It ain’t something that you should even be discussing with each other, because everybody in law enforcement takes this very, very seriously now, and a joke is still gonna get in a lot of trouble.” said Ward.

Sheriff Ward also says that parents need to talk to their children about the seriousness of these crimes, and that these situations are to never be taken lightly.
