Old Richardson Place in Glasgow sees new life

GLASGOW, KY.- In 1909, the Barren County Grocery and Hardware store opened its doors, serving the community until 1943 when it became Richardson Hardware. In 2018, Tim Gooden, Principal of Gooden Properties, and his family decided to invest in this historic building, seeing it as a hidden treasure worth restoring. Tim, who had fond memories of the store from his childhood, was eager to revive it. Initially, his wife Dana, also Principal at Gooden Properties, was hesitant about relocating from the countryside to a small town. However, she soon fell in love with the idea, appreciating the opportunity to live amidst “modern history.”

The restoration project is a revitalizing effect on the surrounding community, turning a fading landmark into a vibrant hub. Dana reflected on their journey, noting how their efforts helped preserve history for future generations. By salvaging materials from the old Horse Cave Theater and repurposing them, they have maintained much of the building’s original charm. This commitment to historical preservation not only strengthens family bonds but also enriches the local area.
