Two men facing charges after stolen police firearm located

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – Two men are facing multiple charges after a police fireman is located.
A Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources officer says fishing activity was being observed on Duncan Road at approximately 4:30 pm on Friday.
Officers say that while on patrol, they detected a strong odor of marijuana from the direction of three males sitting at the water’s edge at the creek.
Kentucky Fish & Wildlife Resources says that after receiving ID cards from the three men, an officer located a firearm near the location of the three men.
An officer detained Joseph Darnell, 39 of Louisville, and Jason Green, 28 of Greensburg.
The three men complied with the officer but denied who the firearm belonged to.
The officer executed a pistol inquiry. The inquiry shows the stolen firearm was from the Saint Matthews Police Department.
Kentucky State Police assisted at the scene. The officer says a cigarette container at the scene contained marijuana and suspected methamphetamine.
Darnell claimed ownership of a truck at the scene. He did not consent to a search of the vehicle.
The windows were down and Kentucky State Police say they observed a marijuana cigarette was in plain view. A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted and police say they located loose marijuana, suspected crystal methamphetamine weighing 28.92 grams and 17.11 grams in a container, and a scale and glass pipe.
Both Darnell and Green denied possession of the firearm and drugs. The men were taken into custody and are lodged at the Warren County Regional Jail.
Darnell and Green are charged with receiving stolen property (firearm), possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia buy-possess, trafficking in a controlled substance 1st degree/1st offense (> or – 2 grams of methamphetamine), possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, and possession of a controlled substance 1st degree/1st offense (methamphetamine).
