NEW DETAILS: Identity released of drowning victim at Barren River Lake

BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a body recovered from Barren River Lake.
On Sunday, Kentucky Fish and Wildlife public information officer Cody Fox confirmed a drowning had taken place at the scene.
Fox stated Monday afternoon that the body has been identified as Michael Aurand of Glasgow. He says Aurand jumped into the water and swam a large distance out before drowning.
Barren County coroner Gibson says an autopsy will be conducted on the body in Louisville.
Glasgow/Barren County Emergency Management stated Sunday night that they were working with those on the scene earlier that evening to determine the last known location of Aurand near the Gilligan’s Island area.
Emergency management officials say teams searched for hours and halted operations for the night from low light and safety concerns. Teams resumed the search again Monday morning.
Assisting agencies at the scene include units from Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Army Corps of Engineers, Barren County Rescue Squad, Austin Tracy Volunteer Fire Department, Allen County Rescue Squad, Barren and Allen County Sheriff units, Kentucky State Police, Hart County Rescue Squad and emergency management personnel from Barren, Hart and Allen counties.
This is a developing story. News 40 will provide additional details as they become available.
