Planned power outage set for some visitor services at Mammoth Cave National Park

MAMMOTH CAVE, Ky. – Visitor services in the main hotel building at Mammoth Cave National Park will temporarily have power shut off on Wednesday, Aug. 21.

According to a release by the park, the power outage is set to last from 7 a.m. to noon.

Park officials say the temporary power outage is required for Kentucky Utilities to relocate a power line that stretches over the Family Cabin construction site.

Those who may be affected include visitors using the main hotel building’s food operations at Lantern Café, Green River Grill and Maple Springs Coffee and Gifts and retail shops.

The park visitor center, cave tours, campground and camp store will not be affected by the project, but the Old Guides Trail along with portions of the Heritage Trail next to the hotel will be closed.

The outage could last less than five hours depending on the complexity of the project. Visitor services will resume as soon as possible after the relocation is complete.

The powerline relocation will be rescheduled if there is inclement weather.
