BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – A man that was on trail for the death of London City Police Officer Logan K. Medlock has been found guilty.

The Kentucky State Police says Casy Preston Byrd, 36, of Oneida, Tennessee, appeared at the Warren County Circuit Court, where he was found guilty of murder, two counts of third-degree criminal mischief and operating a motor vehicle under the influence of intoxicants.

The jury recommended 20 years to serve in prison.

On Nov. 30, 2022, KSP Post 11 responded around 12:49 a.m. for a fatal collision involving Medlock.

Troopers say the two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of South Main Street and Kentucky 229 Barbourville Street in the City of London in Laurel County.

According to troopers, a 2022 Ram pickup truck operated by Byrd was traveling north on KY 229 when his vehicle entered the intersection of South Main Street and struck a 2019 Dodge Charger police cruiser traveling southbound on South Main Street.

The cruiser was operated by 26-year-old Medlock, an on-duty London Police Department officer.

As a result of the collision, troopers say Medlock suffered life-threatening injuries. He was pronounced dead on scene by the Laurel County Coroner’s Office.

Authorities say Byrd was not injured in the collision.

Byrd’s sentencing date is Aug. 26.
