NEW DETAILS: 2 arrested after 10-year-old dies following moped collision in Whitley County

CORBIN, Ky. – Two people are facing charges after a child died following a collision involving a moped in Whitley County earlier this month.
On Tuesday, the Kentucky State Police stated it has served complaint warrants on both Darius L. Wade, 31 of Lexington, and his girlfriend, Danisha Martin, 32 of Lexington.
Wade is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and murder. Martin is charged with complicity to commit murder.
Troopers say they responded after a call from Whitley County 911 around 11:18 p.m. on Aug. 4 about an injury accident involving two vehicles on Interstate 75.
Troopers say Corbin City police were at the scene and stated there were serious physical injuries.
Authorities say preliminary information shows both units were traveling north on I-75. A 2011 Kia Sportage operated by Michael J. Stout, 43, of Indiana, struck a 49.6cc Rogue Scoot star moped near the 26 mile marker, authorities say.
The moped was occupied by both Wade and a 10-year-old juvenile.
Both were transported to a hospital via ambulance to Baptist Regional Hospital in Corbin and later flown to University of Kentucky hospital.
At the UK hospital, authorities say the 10-year-old succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Corner’s Office.
Alcohol is a suspect contributing factor in the collision, troopers say.
The Corbin City Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
Wade and Martin remain lodged at the Whitley County Detention Center.
