Leaving A Legacy: Abraham Williams retires from Bowling Green Housing Authority
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – It’s a big change for everyone but it’s well deserved, the retiring of Abraham Williams from the Bowling Green Housing Authority as the executive director.
Williams drew a big crowd to the Garvin House as he has his retirement party today, celebrating 29 years of service to the organization after leaving Alabama for what he thought just to be 2 or 3 years. Williams said many of the staff working now, he hired at a young age, some of them attending Western Kentucky University at the time.
Party-goers took turns speaking kind words about the director, some of them saying they were in a pretty bad place when Williams took a chance on them, or helped them out in some way whether it was medical or financial stressors. Williams said some of the things he’s most proud of are the housing authority’s after school program and the welfare to work program which are geared at giving kids and adults a needed step up to living a good life.
There were several tears shed, saying farewell to who one woman referred to as a “decent human being, a trait you don’t see much anymore”, a father figure, business mentor and selfless workaholic.
It would seem there are more stories about Abraham Williams than what could be written in just this one article but one thing is for sure, is that he will be certainly missed by staff as a boss and a listening ear who was just a couple of doors away.
