BARREN COUNTY, Ky. – Farmers Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation is raising awareness on potential dangers with electric meters.

Farmers RECC services 11 south-central Kentucky counties.

An electric meter keeps track of the amount of energy flowing through an area. Most are a part of a high voltage circuit.

Farmers RECC emphasized the importance of safety when around a electric meter. Only trained professionals should tamper with one.

Here are ways to prevent serious injury or death, according to Farmers RECC:

  • Do not break a meter seal.
  • Do not move an entrance cable for the electric meter.
  • Do not open a meter base.
  • Avoid touching an electric meter.

Farmers RECC asks the community to report any concerns to them at 270-651-2191.
