LOUISVILLE, Ky. – A Louisville man won big with a ticket for the July 8 Powerball drawing.

According to the Kentucky Lottery, the man, who wishes to remain anonymous, told lottery officials a promotional email led him to buy an online ticket.

The winning ticket matched four white ball numbers and the Powerball to win the game’s $50,000 prize, according to the Kentucky Lottery.

The prize was multiplied to $150,000 since the man added the Power Play feature to his ticket for an additional $1. The Power Play number drawn was 3.

“It was my first time playing Power Play,” the man said. “I really wasn’t even sure how it worked. Fortunately, I played it this time.”

He told officials he went on the Kentucky Lottery app the next day and saw a notification confirming the win.

“That’s when I knew it was real,” he said.

He said he called his wife to share the news.

The Jefferson County man received a check on July 10 for $108,000 after taxes.

He told officials that he and his wife are both planning to retire and that the extra money will help.
