Early cold temperatures hard on homeless looking for shelter
BOWLING GREEN, Ky.-The early winter like weather has made it hard on those in our area living with out a home.
It’s been declared a White Flag Emergency in many places where temperatures have dropped below 15 degrees.
Room in the Inn offers emergency shelter services throughout the cold months.
The non-profit, which serves Warren County, doesn’t open up officially until Friday, November 15th.
However they’ve been getting calls asking if they could open their doors sooner.
Room in the Inn partners with churches to house the homeless when other shelters are full.
The unexpected cold weather couldn’t have come at a worst time for Room in the Inn, and the people they serve.
“We’re in the process of moving still. We actually are bringing in boxes today, so we need a little time to get ourselves organized. Also it’s very difficult for a church to get all of it’s volunteers organized and all of that to mobilize earlier this year,” said Sharli Rogers, program coordinator at Room in the Inn.
Rogers also said they need more volunteers and churches willing to open their doors.
The Salvation Army in Bowling Green is currently available as a White Flag Emergency Shelter.
